Hydrogeology
S.Te.G.A.
works very much in the hydrogeological field applying TDEM method
mainly. The following picture shows the results of a hydrogeological
survey for water supply in a volcanic area of Central Italy (Vulsini
area).
This aquifer feeds Bolsena Lake, the largest volcanic one in Italy.
The inverted model shows a good contrast between unsaturated and
saturated volcanics, according to a resistor-conductor model; the
aquifer is composed of fractured lavas and pyroclastic flows, while
clay substratum is defined as the deepest conductor.
This sounding was performed by 100 x 100 m loop and EM57 transmitter.
The top of the first conductive layer is very close to the water
level, so that geophysical prospecting allowed the construction
of isopachs map of volcanic aquifer and the location of the most
productive area for drilling.
